We are looking for a suitably qualified, experienced Surveyor with a broad range of skills who can make an immediate impact. Utilising your solid foundation of Building Control experience, you will be a part of a busy, collaborative team delivering a quality service.

 

The primary role of the post holder is to enforce Building Regulations.  You will be responsible for the supervision of buildings within and across the borough.  Secondary roles will include contribution to all the Service activities.  The post holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable in responding to the fast-changing needs of the service.

 

Duties are varied and will include:

  • Responsibility to carry out building control duties within a prescribed geographical area.
  • Negotiating and advising developers, applicants, and other interested parties.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation.
  • Carry out plan appraisals to ensure compliance with building regulations.
  • Liaise with architects, agents, contractors, and builders as required.

  • Experience of conducting plans checks and onsite inspections, be an effective communicator, possess developed IT skills, a good attention to detail, with an ability to organise and prioritise their workload.
  • Be knowledgeable of building regulations and allied legislation
  • Knowledge and experience of the Building Act 1984, it associated Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.  
  • Have a recognised qualification in the building control field and be a member of a professional association or working towards full membership.
  • Essential hold a minimum registration with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) of a 2A (Domestic) Registered Building Inspector working towards 2 B and above.
  • You should have extensive and demonstratable building control experience and be able to work unsupervised, in line with established policies and procedures, but with the experience to know when to seek expert help.
  • Working within the LABC QMS systems and the Operational Standard rules for Building Control.

Essential qualifications/skills
Accredited as a class 2A (Domestic inspector) with The Building Safety Regulator (HSE) Minimum
Educated to level 4-6 academic qualification or equivalent, relevant professional/vocational training.
Member of a professional surveying organisation such as RICS, CABE, CIOB. Or actively working towards full membership
Desirable qualifications/skills
Working towards accreditation as a class 2 b-f (general building inspector) with Building Safety Regulator (HSE)
