The team…
The Building Control Team at Gateshead Council is responsible for the application of the Building Regulations to new development within Gateshead. All our surveyors are validated and registered with the Building Safety Regulator and manage a range of projects from domestic extensions to the most complex commercial and residential developments.
There is significant development planned within Gateshead including new housing to commercial developments on the Quayside, Baltic Quarter and the redevelopment of the town centre.
About the role…
You will be working as a Building Surveyor and will be responsible for assisting in the provision of a quality assured customer focused and efficient building control service to benefit the people of Gateshead.
We will support you with your progression through the Building Regulator Competency grades whilst you receive a competitive salary and gain experience to demonstrate progress up the Building Regulator Competencies.You will benefit from the professional support of our experienced surveyors who are validated up to Class 3-4. You will be given the opportunity to gain experience in the types of building that will support your portfolio of work, and the CPD necessary for the progression of your career though the Competency Classes.
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable varied experience on a wide range of projects as a Building Surveyor within a supportive team environment.
Progression through the career grade will be subject to you demonstrating the appropriate Building Regulator Competency level at the relevant stage. Please refer to the Building Surveyor career grade document for further details.

THE KNOWLEDGE
o Registered or working towards Class 1 Building Inspector role in the Building Safety
Regulator Building Inspector Competence Framework (or equivalent)
o Full Driving Licence or access to mobility support
THE EXPERIENCE
o Experience of Building Control, legislation process and procedure.
o Competence gained in plan examination and site inspections.
THE SKILLS
o Strong customer focus and commitment to continuous improvement.
o Working as part of a team.
o Competent in using relevant IT systems, such as, Microsoft Office
o Good communication skills
