We are looking for an experienced Building Control professional who is committed to delivering a high-quality public service and ensuring buildings are safe and compliant.
You will have sound technical knowledge, experience of assessing building regulation applications and undertaking site inspections, together with the ability to provide clear professional advice to applicants, designers and contractors.
You will be a Registered Building Inspector with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive and professional team.
About the role:
You will play a key role in delivering Exeter City Council’s statutory Building Control service.
You will assess Building Regulation applications, undertake site inspections, provide technical advice and support compliance with current building legislation. The role involves working with a wide range of stakeholders including homeowners, developers, architects, contractors and other professionals.
You will also contribute to service improvement, knowledge sharing and maintaining the high professional standards expected of a modern Building Control service.

Exeter City Council’s Building Control team provides a professional and customer-focused service supporting safe, sustainable and compliant development across the city.
The team operates in a changing regulatory environment following the introduction of the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulator requirements. Our recent audit by the BSR demonstrates that we are committed to maintaining high standards, developing our staff and delivering an effective service.
Essential requirements:
Relevant professional qualification and experience in Building Control.
Registered Building Inspector (RBI) status.
Demonstrable experience in plan assessment and site inspections.
Knowledge and understanding of Building Regulations, Building Act 1984 and Building Safety legislation.
Full driving licence and access to suitable transport for site visits.
