The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge and sound professional judgement, providing appropriate advice based on up-to-date technical knowledge and advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge. Detailed knowledge of all aspects of building control, together with knowledge of other areas such as planning, housing, fire service and health and safety will be crucial.

You must have a practical and proportionate approach to enforcement and compliance, with a commitment to high standards of customer service.

You’ll have the ability to work collaboratively within a shared service and political local authority environment whilst maintaining a positive, flexible and adaptable approach to change. Good written, verbal, presentational and inter-personal skills enabling effective communication with staff, management, chief officers, directors, elected members and the general public will be key.

You must be able to manage and communicate complex cases / situations which require a high level of professional expertise, with the ability to assess and evaluate a wide range of information, involving good decision making and problem solving, whilst engaging with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

We are seeking professional and customer‑focused Registered Building Inspector Class 2-F who will contribute positively to the delivery and reputation of the Bolton Bourgh building control service.

The Registered Building Inspector plays a key professional role within the Building Control Service, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of people in and around buildings. This is achieved through the effective implementation and enforcement of the Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984 and associated legislation, while delivering a high quality, customer focused statutory service.

Essential qualifications/skills
Registered Building Inspector – Registered with the Building Safety Regulator ideally at Class 3 but as a minimum to Class 2 and in the process of working towards Class 3 (Principal Building Control Surveyor)
Registered Building Inspector – Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2 with aspirational plans to work towards Class 3 (Senior Building Control Surveyor)
Registered Building Inspector – Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2 (Building Control Surveyor)
Registered Building Inspector – Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 1 with the drive and enthusiasm required to undertake 4 years study to obtain a BSc (Hons) Degree Building Control Surveying whilst undertaking work-based activities during the days you do not attend University. Have aspirational plans to work towards Classes 2 and 3 (Trainee Building Control Surveyor).
Desirable qualifications/skills
Possess M.I.StructE or equivalent
Technical accreditation on EMS, environmental impact assessment, or development standards such as BREEAM, or Code for Sustainable Homes
