About

We have an exceptional opportunity for a senior manager to join our Building Control service to oversee the Councils work under the Building Safety Act and day-to-day Building Control functions.

In Solihull, we help make big things happen – like the High-Speed Rail network, M42 Junction 5a, our housing growth programme aligned with a new emerging Local Plan and bringing forward exciting commercial and residential developments including Birmingham Airport, the N.E.C., Jaguar Land Rover and Arden Cross developments to name but a few.

We also pride ourselves on being a Council that is small enough to care, but big enough to make a difference. To help achieve this we work closely with our public sector partners, businesses, the voluntary sector and communities to improve the lives of the people we serve.

Responsibilities

This exciting and challenging role has been created to take the operational lead and have overall management responsibility for the Councils statutory and regulatory Building Control functions including fee earning and non-fee earning operations.  You will lead a high performing and award-winning team of staff and work closely with the Councils Planning service; our Housing ALMO - Solihull Community Housing; and project delivery teams.

As the Strategic Lead, this will provide you with an excellent opportunity to grow the team’s portfolio of work – building experience and opportunity for continued professional development – something that will be integral in an evolving Building Control arena. This will include links through the BSR and growing our already excellent local portfolio of commercial partners and customers
