Are you an experienced surveyor with passion for health, public safety, welfare and convenience or persons around buildings and structures?

Supporting the Building Control Team Manager, you will be involved with a multi-faceted post within the Neighbourhood and Environmental Services division. You can expect to be proactive with site visits, take enforcement procedure in relation to building works and provide advice to a host of agencies including the fire service.

Essentially, you will have exposure to building regulations with particular emphasis on fire safety, have 2 years minimum experience within building control and have a natural aptitude for tactfulness when liaising with external bodies.

We are seeking 2 post holders to work Full Time, 37-hour week on permanent contracts. Working hours are typically daytime, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the protection of health and safety by the assessment of building work, as well as the requirement of any necessary changes to ensure compliance with the building regulations and associated legislation.

Also, you will play a key part in the protection of public in relation to dangerous structures (including out-of-hours) and demolitions. You will also be tasked with enforcing the relevant requirements of the building regulations, ensure that sustainable development and environmental improvement policies are implemented and ensure required building work have adequate conservation of fuel and power.

Essential qualifications/skills
Essentially, you will have an in-depth knowledge of the building regulations and guidance documents and have dealt with various types of buildings. You will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience within a building control environment and be an excellent communicator so to ensure external parties have clarity over any given scenario.

The ability to grasp new ideas and adapt daily is desired, along with the essential ability to handle pressure, assesses priorities and meet deadlines.
