We are the largest provider of building control services in Derbyshire, a position we are able to maintain and enhance by supporting every member of our team to contribute positively to our ongoing success.  As a Building Control Surveyor responsible for Derby and the surrounding area, you will be encouraged to participate in the same way.  You will have plenty of variety because there will be a broad range of building control projects which you will manage and progress to successful completion. In addition, you will help to grow our business by establishing and strengthening working relationships with architects, developers as well as other existing or potential clients.

We are looking for someone who has proven experience in a similar role and, ideally, who is a member or working towards membership of an appropriate body including RICS, CABE or CIOB. You will also need to show that customer service matters to you as well as display the ability to work to the highest standards with the minimum of supervision.

Responsibilities

Processing all building regulation applications and ensuring speedy determination under delegated powers including all matters of vetting, planning and inspection under the Building Control Regulations, Building Acts and allied legislation

Provide advice  and guidance to Building Control Assistants as well as mentor the Building Control Apprentices

To carry out inspections of Dangerous Structures or reported drainage problems and to prepare the appropriate notice at the request of the Building Control Team Leader

To maintain an awareness and understanding of legislation and legal precedents as they relate to building control issues.

To investigate unauthorised building works and to take appropriate action as necessary by providing advice to issue notices of non–compliance with Building Regulations under S.35/36 of the Building Act 1984. .

Essential qualifications/skills
Working towards or full membership of an appropriate body including RICS, CABE or CIOB
Able to demonstrate continuing professional development within the Building Control field
Able to work effectively as part of a team and able to support apprentices as a point on building control related issues.
Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision and to demonstrate good organisational skills including the setting of priorities in order to meet exacting deadlines.
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable qualifications/skills
IT skills with experience in the use of information technology/back office systems to support service provision
Sound knowledge of the Building Regulations, the Building Act, Approved Documents, British Standards and other Guidance Documents
